This list of Buddhism by country shows the distribution of the Buddhist religion, practiced by about 500 million people as of the 2010s,[4] representing 7% to 8% of the world's total population.

Countries with Buddhists majorities include Cambodia (97.9%), Thailand (94.5%), Myanmar (87.9%), Bhutan (74.7%), Sri Lanka (70.2%), Japan (69.8%), and others. China is the country with the largest population of Buddhists, approximately 244 million or 18.2% of its total population.[1] They are mostly followers of Chinese schools of Mahayana, making this the largest body of Buddhist traditions. Mahayana, also practised in broader East Asia, is followed by over half of the world's Buddhists.[1]

The second largest body of Buddhist schools is Theravada, mostly followed in Southeast Asia.[1] The third largest body of schools Vajrayana, is followed mostly in Tibet, the Himalayan region, Mongolia and parts of Russia,[1] but is disseminated throughout the world. The fourth largest body of Buddhist schools is Navayana, mostly followed in Maharashtra, India.[5][6]

According to scholar Peter Harvey, the number of adherents of Eastern Buddhism (Mahayana) is 360 million, Southern Buddhism (Theravada) 150 million, and Northern Buddhism (Vajrayana) 18.2 million. Seven million additional Buddhists are found outside Asia.[3]

इतिहासलेखनपद्धति इतिहासलेखनपद्धति :  प्राचीन काळापासून आधुनिक काळापर्यंत उपलब्ध पुराव्यांवरून त्या त्या काळातील मानवी प्रयत्‍न, सामाजिक जीवनातील घडामोडी व परिस्थिती यांविषयी स्थळ, काळ व व्यक्ती यांच्या निर्देशांसह जे लेखन केले जाते, त्यास इतिहासलेखन म्हणतात. इतिहासलेखनास प्रथम केव्हा सुरुवात झाली हे ज्ञात नाही तथापि ईजिप्त, ॲसिरिया, बॅबिलोनिया, चीन वगैरे देशांत इ. स. पू. १५०० पासून पुढे इतिहासविषयक काही लेखन केलेले आढळते. त्यांत राजांच्या कुळी, त्यांचे पराक्रम व तत्संबंधित माहिती ग्रथित केलेली आहे. बहुतेक लेखनावर तत्कालीन धर्माचे वर्चस्व आढळते आणि बहुसंख्या लेखन शिलालेख, मृत्पात्रे, भाजलेल्या मातीच्या विटा व पपायरसे (ईजिप्तमधील कागद), भूर्जपत्रे, ताडपत्रे, कातडी ह्यांवर लिहिलेले असून गद्यापेक्षा पद्याचा त्यात अधिक उपयोग केलेला आहे. मात्र शास्त्रशुद्ध इतिहासलेखनाऐवजी पुराणकथा व दंतकथांचाच त्यात अधिक भरणा आढळतो. त्यामुळे वरील इतिहासलेखनावरून तत्कालीन समाजाची, त्यांच्या चालीरीतींची व धार्मिक कल्पनांची माहिती मिळत असली, तरी तत्कालीन राजकीय घडामोडींची विश्वसनीय माहिती उपलब्ध होत नाही. म...

अनुसूचित जाती व जमाती > समाजशास्त्र > अनुसूचित जाती व जमाती अनुसूचित जाती व जमाती  : भारतीय संविधानाच्या ३४१ व ३४२ या अनुच्छेदांनुसार मागासलेले म्हणून जे वर्ग राष्ट्रपतींद्वारा जाहीर केले जातात, त्यांपैकी अनुसूचित जाती व अनुसूचित जमाती ह्या संख्येच्या व त्यांच्या समस्यांच्या व्यापकतेच्या दृष्टीने अधिक महत्त्वाच्या गणल्या जातात. या व्यतिरिक्त इतर कोणते वर्ग मागासलेले म्हणून स्वीकारावेत, याचा निर्णय राज्य सरकारांवर सोपविला आहे याशिवाय महाराष्ट्र शासनाने आणखी दोन वर्गांना मागासलेले म्हणून मान्यता दिलेली आहे. यांत (१) विमुक्त जाती व भटक्या जमाती आणि (२) नवदीक्षित बौद्ध व आर्थिक दृष्ट्या मागासलेले यांचा समावेश होतो [→विमुक्त जाती].  अनुसूचित जाती  : अनुसूचित जाती ही संज्ञा प्रथम सायमन कमिशनने वापरली व तीच पुढे १९३५च्या कायद्यात अंतर्भूत करण्यात आली. सामान्यतः अस्पृश्य मानल्या गेलेल्या जातींचा समावेश अनुसूचित जातीत होतो. १९३५च्या कायद्याच्या परिशिष्टात अशा अनुसूचित जातींची पहिली अधिकृत यादी प्रकाशित करण्यात आली. अनुसूचित जातींची संख्या १९६१ सालच्या जनगणनेप्रमाणे अदमा...
